Foam board can be cut using a sharp craft knife and metal ruler on a self-healing cutting mat. Score lightly along the cut line first, then deepen the cut in subsequent passes for a clean, controlled result. For straight-edged cuts, always use a metal ruler as a guide. Foam board can also be scored on one side and bent to create curved and angled forms for model making and three-dimensional construction.

Surfaces can be painted with acrylic paint, covered with paper or fabric using PVA glue, or marked directly with pencil and marker. Foam board pieces can be joined using PVA glue, hot glue or foam-safe adhesive for model assembly and construction work.
